Find the right rider training

Training built around the rider you are.

Nobody's first lap looks the same. Some arrive with a fresh licence and butterflies, some with twenty years of Sunday passes, some chasing a race number. Rider training at SMSP isn't one product — it's a graded system that meets you where you are and hands you the next honest step.

  • Who it's for

    Every licence, every pace

From the free First-Timers Program to A-group racers — every programme below says exactly who it suits before you book.

  • Why SMSP

    The professionals' classroom

An FIA Grade 2 circuit, Australia's only fully floodlit GP layout, and accredited partners — MEGA since 1997, the California Superbike School — coaching every session.

  • Where it leads

    A ladder, not a lap

Graded groups C to A with regrading on the day, school levels 1 to 4, then the racing licence pathway. Progress is designed in — never accidental.

The rider pathway

One racing line. Four sectors.

MEGA's graded groups are the spine of every SMSP ride day — and you're re-graded on the day, so the ladder moves exactly as fast as you do.

Good to know

Frequently asked.

A current road rider licence — full or provisional — covers ride days, ride nights and the schools. Learner permits can't be accepted at ride days. Racing formats like Test & Tune need a Motorcycling Australia licence, and the Racing Licence Pathway walks you through getting one.

Book a C-group ride day and stay back after the morning briefing — the free First-Timers Program adds an extra track-craft session, an optional escorted first lap and staff to lean on all day. Most first-timers describe the C group as calmer than their Sunday road ride.

Yes — race-prepped BMW S 1000 RRs and Ducati Panigale V4Ss from $545 a day, full Alpinestars leathers, boots, gloves and a full-face helmet for $100, or bike-and-gear together for $595. A card and licence are held on the day, with capped damage liability spelled out before you sign.

Gates at 6:30, sign-on and scrutineering, then a compulsory safety briefing before anything turns a wheel. Track runs from 8:30 with each graded group getting six 20-minute sessions — there's no lunch stop, so the day flows session to session until close.

Four groups, capped at forty riders each: C (white) for first-timers and slow-to-medium road pace, B (yellow) for experienced ride-day riders, B1 (green) for the quick and coached, and A (red) for very fast riders and racers. Tracking stickers keep it honest, and staff re-grade riders before and during the day — both directions.

Rain does not stop the event — a wet racetrack is half the education, and groups adjust pace to suit. Slicks are banned on a wet track, so bring treaded rubber if the forecast is unkind. Sessions only pause for genuinely unsafe conditions.

Full leathers — one-piece, or a two-piece that zips together all the way around. Textiles aren't accepted on the circuit. Add leather boots and gauntlet gloves that overlap the suit, and an Australian-Standard full-face helmet. No lid or leathers? Hire the lot at sign-on.

Almost every sound road or track bike is — sports, tourers, cruisers and motards all ride. It needs working controls, no fluid leaks, and mirrors taped or removed on the day. Scrutineering at sign-on has the final say, and the crew will help rather than turn you away.

Good road rubber is fine for C and B groups — the rule is a minimum 2 mm of tread across the centre and the sides. Quicker groups often run track tyres or slicks in the dry, and the on-site tyre service can fit, swap and pressure-check all day.

Every tier comes in a bike flavour: Bike Enthusiast ($105/yr) for occasional riders, Bike Enthusiast + ($245/yr) for regulars, and Bike Competitor ($170/yr) for licence holders who race — each on one or three year terms with concession rates. The membership page compares them side by side.

Genuinely. The annual 50%-off Ride Day voucher alone returns most of an Enthusiast membership, Competitors save $30 at every Test & Tune plus half-price NIGHTSHIFT entry, and members-only evenings never reach public sale. Ride twice a year and the maths already works.

Online, in about five minutes — pick your tier, bike or car, and a one or three year term. Your digital member card lands by email and benefits switch on immediately, so a membership bought on Thursday discounts Saturday's ride day.
